I think I will cover the topic of Luella Miller for the paper. This was one of my favorites and I'd like to learn more about it.
As far as the Graveyard Book, I can't believe it's a children's book. The dark and scary parts would have absolutely terrified me as a kid.

What would you like to say about "Luella Miller," Deirdra? Or are you just planning to research it for now, and see what develops from there?
ReplyDeleteAs for scary children's books, have you ever read Roald Dahl? Or the (unexpurgated) Brothers Grimm?
I haven't read any stories from those authors, but I have they are very dark. I will have to check those out sometime. Obviously the murder theme in The Graveyard Book is mature, but there really isn't any gruesome detail. I like how the style and illustrations are fitting for a children's story. Most of the story isn't too mature. A lot of people have compared it to Harry Potter, and I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if The Graveyard Book gets made into a movie.
ReplyDeleteThis may seem weird, but could I compare Luella Miller as a vampire story to say another vampire story, like The Cloak. I'm really interested in characteristics of vampires and how they differ story to story.. Any ideas for that?
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as scary, I was always scared of books like that. I grew up reading Harry Potter and remember when the fourth book came out and the beginning talked about the secret meeting in the Shrieking Shack and the groundsman or someone came in and the snake attacked him, well that gave me nightmares. (sadly)
But yea, I could see The Graveyard Book being made into a movie. I'd go see it! I sat down one afternoon to read a chapter of it, and I ended up reading the whole thing. It is really interesting.
