I'm still trying to figure out what I want to write about for my paper. I couldn't help but like the question "Were Mr. and Mrs. Hetman in 'The Moonlit Road' both merely imagining a non-existent intruder, or did that intruder actually exist? If so, who might it have been?" from the list because I talked about that in class. But, I didn't know if that would be too narrow.
I also liked the idea of comparing the vampire from "For the Blood is the Life" with the being from "Genius Loci" and how they draw their prey in and how their reasons are similar/different. I think this topic might be more open than the first, since their are two pieces to pull from.
What do you think?
I think the first topic would be very interesting, but I'm unsure if I could make it meet the length requirement. I guess you could make it work if it's a heavily criticized work with many theories. I guess you can use the theory that it is actually the husband, it's a stranger, or it's a supernatural being (since there are supernatural elements in the story). As for the second topic, I feel like it would probably be easier to make the length requirement.
ReplyDeleteLauren, I think that if you present and examine all the evidence in "The Moonlit Road," you'll have no trouble whatsoever meeting the length requirement -- a minimum, remember, not a maximum. But whichever topic interests you the most is the topic you ought to run with.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm sure you can go into the Gorgas Library databases -- the MLA International Bibliography, for example -- and find various critical takes on "The Moonlit Road" that you may or may not agree with. Those articles, too, could be fodder for your paper idea.
