Just so everyone know, you have likely all seen the painting American Gothic that is referenced on page 168 in Heart-Shaped Box. Just thought I would make it a little more accessible.
In other news, not much of a bio of Joe Hill on his website's bio page, but I did like this line:
"He lives in a small stone cell at the bottom of a chasm; there is only one steep, treacherous trail leading down to it, and the way is protected by fierce goats."

Thanks for the picture...I prefer this version of it myself (but that's just 'cause I'm a fan of anything that involves Neil Gaiman and a very large fork).

Now that is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteJust a cool side note about American Gothic...A few years ago I was a door to door book salesman in Iowa and there are many random things about that state but one of my favorite is that in a tiny town called Eldon is the actual little white house that is the backdrop of that painting. Grant Wood, the artist, was from Iowa and I guess he was just inspired by the house. There's absolutely nothing special about it, it's just at the very edge of town and is one of the last homes on a little residential street. What is neat is that the people of Eldon are so proud of it that they have built a museum/gift shop in honor of the house directly next to it and the gift shop is about 3 times the size of the house itself. Just one of the many awkward things about Iowa.
