Random

I figured I would write something about this since every now and then we get on the topic of demonic possession. I recently watched Paranormal Activity, and while I didn't find it anywhere near as scary as people had talked it up to be, I still found the idea fairly creepy. The thought that a malevolent spirit could come into a person's life and completely disrupt it for such a long period of time is pretty disturbing. Well, that's all I had to say about that so back to the discussions at hand.

  1. I agree on the scariness (sp?) factor. It wasn't really scary, more so suspenseful. I think that is really how I react to most scary movies though. I never really find something that scares me, I always have too good a grip on reality. Movies might make me jump, but not scared.

  2. ...I spent most of the time I was watching it yelling (mentally, of course, I was in a theater)at the characters for doing *everything* wrong.

  3. You know, just once I want to see a horror movie where the characters have seen a horror movie so they don't keep us screaming at them.

  4. It was funny how some people thought that movie was so scary, and others thought it sucked. My friend said not to see it unless I was afraid of doors closing haha.

  5. Haha yea, it was scary at the end, because it made me think about a spirit's ability to take over a body. I do hate when characters do everything wrong, which is why a lot of scary movies aren't that scary. You are just upset with the stupid characters, because no one would actually do that, so it ruins the mood. But I most say, I did like the movie. Especially since it was such a low-budget film, I felt it faired better than other scary movies. Perhaps not on the scare factor, but just that ending creepiness, perhaps? It was like it wasn't over..

  6. A sequel is supposed to open October 22, 2010. Here's the link to the imdb page http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1536044/. Though the first movie was such an unexpected success, they'll probably run the sequel into the ground like most horror franchises. Also, the once unknown actors probably have big heads now.

  7. I think one reason why I enjoyed The Strangers so much is because the protagonist did things that a real person would do. For example, once the characters find out the killers have made it inside the house, the characters go to get a gun. While it doesn't work out for them, this is something you don't see very often in horror movies: decisions that make sense.
