Self Promo

As I was watching The Mist again I noticed that David's paintings looked rather familiar. The Mist is the only work by Stephen King that I've read, but I've seen the covers of The Dark Tower books before. I thought it was interesting to find references to other horror works in the beginning of the film. I've never seen another Stephen King-inspired movie, but I tried to find out if this happens in other Stephen King adaptations. I couldn't find anything, though. Sorry if this is all very obvious to the Stephen King fans!

  1. Whats happening there is the director of The Mist, Frank Darabont, who also made Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile wanted to give a shout out to one of the most famous movie poster artists ever, Drew Struzan. Since in the book David is supposed to be a pretty successful artist Darabont decided to just model the David in the movie after Drew Struzan. That's why in his office is something that looks almost identical to the movie poster of "The Thing" which Struzan drew and also something in the shadows that's looks a lot like a Star Wars poster which Struzan also drew. The poster he's busy drawing in the film is just his take on the what a "Dark Tower" poster would look like.

Just to give you a little background on how cool Struzan is hes done the posters for The Star Wars films, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Goonies, Hook, and ET. When it comes to posters, hes pretty much "the man".
